Credits & Usage

Last updated:

Credits keep track of the AI work Kira does for you. Creating an image, making an edit, processing a video, or asking Kira to search the web can use credits. The amount depends on the action, model, and, for video, the time being processed.

Your credits belong to your Kira account. Use the same account on web and in the app to access the same balance.

Check your balance

On desktop, open Profile, choose Settings, then select Billing. The Credit card shows your balance, and the Plan card shows your current plan.

On mobile web, open Profile and Settings. Your credits and plan appear in the Billing section at the top.

You can also open Billing settings on the web after signing in.

How your balance works

There are two parts to your credit balance:

  • Regular credits: your welcome grant, free daily top-ups, or subscription allowance.
  • Add-on credits: credits from purchased add-on packs and qualifying rewards, such as referrals.

Kira uses regular credits first, then add-on credits. Your displayed total is the two balances added together.

While a task is running, some credits can be temporarily reserved for it. Those credits are still part of the displayed total but are not available to start another task. A reservation is not an additional charge.

Free credits

Welcome credits

New Kira accounts receive 30 welcome credits, once per account. You do not need to buy a subscription to begin with the features available on the Free plan.

Signing out and back in does not grant another welcome allowance.

Daily credit top-ups

Eligible Free-plan accounts can claim a daily top-up that brings their regular credit balance to 15. It is not an extra 15 credits automatically added every day.

To claim, your account must be eligible, its total credit balance must be below 15, and the countdown must have finished. The cooldown is 24 hours, rather than a reset at midnight. Kira shows the next available claim time.

When the daily-credit gift is available, open it and choose Claim. On desktop, the entry appears in Billing; on mobile web, look for the gift on the upgrade screen.

For example, if you have 5 regular credits, no add-on credits, and an eligible claim, the top-up adds 10 and leaves you with 15 regular credits. It does not take your balance to 20.

Daily top-ups leave add-on credits unchanged. Having unused add-on credits can affect eligibility because the low-balance check includes both credit types. Paid plans do not receive this Free-plan daily top-up.

Subscription credits

Paid plans include a credit allowance for their billing period. The allowance depends on the plan, billing interval, and where the subscription was purchased.

Use the toggles to see the allowance for your plan, billing period, and where you subscribed:

Basic1,000credits per monthIncludes Lite
Pro2,000credits per monthIncludes Lite, Nova, Video
Max6,000credits per monthIncludes Lite, Nova, Ultra, Video

Web subscriptions are billed through Stripe. Annual plans issue the whole year's allowance at once instead of refilling monthly.

Annual plans issue the year's allowance together, rather than refilling it each month.

At a normal renewal, your regular credit balance resets to the new period's allowance. Unused subscription credits are not added on top. For example, a web Pro monthly renewal resets that balance to 2,000, rather than adding 2,000 to what was left.

Plan upgrades can follow different credit-allocation rules depending on the purchase platform. Check the information shown when changing plans.

Add-on and reward credits

Add-on packs are one-time purchases for accounts with an active paid subscription. They add to your add-on balance and do not renew automatically.

Current pack allowances are:

Small5,000add-on credits, one time
Medium10,000add-on credits, one time
Large20,000add-on credits, one time

Packs need an active paid subscription. Prices are shown under Add on in Billing.

Use Add on in Billing to see the packs and current prices available to you. Free-plan accounts need an active paid subscription before purchasing a pack.

Add-on credits are separate from the subscription allowance and are not reset by a normal subscription renewal. When a subscription ends, its remaining regular credits are cleared; add-on credits remain separate, and your available features follow your current plan. Refunds or account closure can affect credits as described in the Terms of Use.

Qualifying referrals currently award 50 add-on credits to the inviter and the new user. Campaign rewards may also be issued as add-on credits under the offer's conditions. Simply opening an invitation link is not a completed qualifying signup.

How much actions cost

Charges apply to completed billable actions. One instruction can run more than one action—for example, creating an image and then upscaling it.

Pick a tab to see current charges, and use the video tab to estimate a cost:

ModelGenerateImage Edit
Lite55
Novanormally1010
Ultranormally1010

Amounts are credits per completed action.

Charges apply to completed actions. Nova and Ultra reserve the standard amount and settle the actual charge when the action finishes, which can be lower.

Some Nova or Ultra results can use fewer credits. Kira can reserve the standard amount before starting and settle the actual charge when the action completes.

For example, generating an image with Lite and then using Upscale costs 5 + 5 = 10 credits when both actions complete.

Browsing the Gallery, searching this Help Center, opening an existing project, and downloading an existing result are not these billable AI-search or generation actions.

Video processing

Video is charged by billable seconds, and the rate depends on the video model: Nova is 15 credits per second and Ultra is 25. Video generation is available on the Pro and Max plans.

For a new video, the billable time is its output duration. A 5-second video therefore costs 75 credits with Nova, or 125 credits with Ultra.

Video Edit, Video Extend, and current Motion Control operations can also bill the input video being processed:

  • Video Edit: the processed source duration plus the output duration.
  • Video Extend: the source segment used for the extension plus the full output duration, including the retained segment.
  • Motion Control: the processed reference-video duration plus the output duration.

For example, an edit that processes 5 seconds of source video and produces 5 seconds of output has 10 billable seconds: 150 credits with Nova, or 250 credits with Ultra.

Trimming a video without an AI-generation step does not incur this per-second AI-processing charge. Different features still require the appropriate plan; having enough credits alone does not unlock every video tool.

When credits are charged

Kira reserves an estimated amount before a billable task begins, then charges for the completed work. Any unused reservation is released.

For example, with a total balance of 150 credits:

Task stateDisplayed totalAvailable for new tasks
Before starting150150
Running, with 10 reserved150140
Completed, with a final charge of 10140140

If that action fails before completing, its reservation is released instead of becoming a final charge. If a request completed earlier billable actions before a later step failed, those completed actions still count.

Closing the browser tab or losing your connection does not necessarily stop a running task. It may finish and use credits. Reopen Editor → Project to check what completed before starting a retry.

If you don't have enough credits

You need enough available credits for the action, not just a balance above zero. An active task's reservation can also reduce what is available for another request.

You can:

  • Wait for a running task to finish and settle its reservation.
  • Claim an eligible free top-up once its countdown has finished.
  • Choose an available model or action that uses fewer credits.
  • Subscribe or, with an active paid plan, buy an add-on pack.

Running low does not remove your existing creations. You can return to your projects and download results that are already there.

Frequently asked questions

Do daily credits arrive automatically?

No. Eligible Free-plan accounts claim a top-up to 15 regular credits. Check the daily-credit gift and its countdown; it is not an automatic extra 15 every day.

Do retries cost credits?

A new retry can use credits if it completes billable work. Before retrying after a connection problem, check Project for a result from the original request.

Does changing a prompt use credits?

Editing text before sending it does not start a billable task. Sending a new request can run billable actions, and changing a prompt does not undo charges for work already completed.

What if I don't like the result?

A completed billable action uses credits even if you decide not to keep its result. Credits are not automatically returned because you prefer a different image or want another variation.

Why do I have credits but a tool is unavailable?

Check both your plan and available balance. Add-on credits do not change which features your plan includes, and running tasks can temporarily reserve part of your balance.

My purchase or balance doesn't look right. What should I do?

Refresh your account's billing view, check that you're signed into the correct Kira account, and check Project for any completed tasks. For a store purchase, use the app's purchase-restoration option if needed. If the issue continues, use live chat or email [email protected] with your account details, the task or project involved, and the payment receipt where relevant.
